Inner City Program
Illinois Youth Soccer Inner City Programs
Since 1992, Illinois Youth Soccer has contributed over $1 Million to soccer programs for at-risk children living in some of the most economically disadvantaged communities in Chicago.
The Illinois Youth Soccer Inner City Programs offer children in these impoverished neighborhoods the opportunity to meet and play in a safe environment. The programs provides meaningful opportunities to these youngsters while keeping them off the street and away from drugs and gangs.
In 2009, over 1,000 children from throughout Chicago participated in programs run at 12 locations. Based on this success Illinois Youth Soccer was awarded a US Soccer Foundation "Impact Grant." These programs were also the recipients of grants from GoGirlGo! and US Youth Soccer.
Relationships with the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA), Chicago Park District, City of Chicago, Chicago Public Schools and Easter Seals have made this a successful ongoing cooperative project to provide the most neglected inner city youngsters with an opportunity to participate in a team sport at supervised safe locations, while gaining self-esteem, learning the importance of hard work, sportsmanship, teamwork and commitment and staying away from gangs and drugs.
