In late August, Illinois Youth Soccer joined State Associations across the country in supporting a historic step toward bringing US Youth Soccer (USYS) closer to U.S. Soccer. The integration is designed to create greater alignment across the game while bringing additional resources, investment and opportunities to local soccer communities. For Illinois Youth Soccer, the move represents an opportunity to build on our five decades of supporting soccer through the state and gain closer access to the resources, expertise and national opportunities provided by U.S. Soccer.
What This Means for Soccer in Illinois
The integration begins a two-year process during which State Associations will work closely with U.S. Soccer to help shape the future of the game at the local level. For Illinois Youth Soccer, the focus is on ensuring that the benefits of this closer connection are felt throughout the state; from players and families to clubs, leagues, coaches and referees.
The goal is to strengthen soccer in Illinois by:
- Bringing more resources and investment to local soccer, helping communities continue to grow and expand opportunities for players.
- Strengthening Illinois Youth Soccer’s ability to serve its members, building on the organization’s five decades of experience supporting youth soccer throughout the state.
- Creating more opportunities for players to participate and stay involved in the game, from grassroots soccer through advanced pathways and beyond.
- Providing greater support for clubs, leagues, coaches and referees, giving those who deliver the game every day access to additional resources and expertise.
- Making soccer easier for families to understand and navigate, creating a more connected experience for players as they progress through the game.
- Connecting Illinois communities more directly to U.S. Soccer, opening the door to national resources, expertise and opportunities that can benefit the state’s soccer community.
The integration is part of U.S. Soccer’s broader Pathways Strategy, which seeks to create a more connected soccer system across the country. For Illinois Youth Soccer, that vision starts at the local level—building on the strong foundation already established across Illinois and creating new opportunities, resources and investment to help the game continue to grow.
With its longstanding relationships with clubs, leagues and families throughout the state, Illinois Youth Soccer will play an important role in helping translate this national alignment into meaningful local benefits. The ultimate goal is a stronger, more connected soccer experience that gives more Illinois players the opportunity to play, develop and remain in the game.
